ECO-COMMUNITY PROJECT - REGENESIS VILLAGE Pty. Ltd.

THE VIEWS, at Main Arm Village
In 2002 ReGenesis Village Pty, Ltd.  acquired a 130 acre property in Main Arm Village, Byron Shire.  This land was purchased as an ideal location on which to create an ecological village as 25 acres of it were already zoned as ‘village’ and had been for 100 years.  The remaining 105 acres were identified by the Byron Shire Rural Settlement Strategy as a prime location for possible community title residential dwellings. ReGenesis Village Pty envisioned creating a design that it hoped  would  set a local precedent and demonstrate what was possible in terms ‘quality of life' and concepts of ‘well being', rather than simply life style considerations.

Extensive work was then done on site evaluation and assessment.  Plans are made, reworked and recreated.  Those plans are now complete. Zoning for the Community Title lots was approved in 2007 for the rural sector of the property, with the Council’s agreement that 12 residential lots be permitted in the rural sector. 13 sites have been designated in the village sector.  A Development Application was lodged in Feb. 2008.

Two houses on two of the designated lots have been completed in the Hamlet.

Burgess Burgess
The house in the Village sector was designed by Melbourne Architect, Gregory Burgess (FRAIA), well known for the unique Visitors Center at Uluru.  The Burgess House is a uniquely organic contemporary design combining soft curves, and sharp angles that perfectly offset and balance each other, providing a light-filled, spacious, living environment.
Higginson Higginson
The second completed house was designed by local Byron Shire Designer, Gavan Higginson.  Inspired by the shape of the nautilus shell, the Higginson House has an open, hexagonal kitchen/living room space and a large curved outdoor verandah.  Magnificent valley views and stunning Buggeram escarpment are visible from all points of the house.

There will also be a cluster 8 low-impact units in the Village Sector, plus 2 dual purpose dwellings, ideal for home and work (pottery, painting, dressmaking, chiropractic etc.)  The two sectors will be united by walking trails and a large mutually accessible green area.

The Views, at Main Arm Village, will feature:

    • 'cutting edge' energy and resource saving technologies,
    • sustainable building materials and designs
    • the restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems
